Endless Numbered Mixtape #9: Roberta Flack’s “Let It Be Me”

Roberta Flack - Let It Be Me

I’ve never given it more thought than an “oh, that’s gotta go on there” (which I then proceed to promptly forget all about), but I definitely intend on curating the most masterful and moving collection of music possible if/when those wedding bells ring for me.

So if for nothing but the sake of posterity, I’m sharing/posting “Let It Be Me” from Roberta Flack’s 1970 album Chapter Two, which will surely find it’s way onto that matrimonial compilation.

Above and beyond the heart-string melodies and goose-bump vocals, there’s the wonderful fidelity. It should be the goal of every musician recording today, to capture the fidelity contained within the two sides of this LP jacket. It’s there in the vocals; you can hear the walls of the room cradling the crisp, reedy warmth of Roberta Flack’s upper register (the subtle skips n’ pops in this recording certainly don’t hurt either).

Definitely one to play at full volume.
