The Implausible Euphemism
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki agrees with Barack Obama’s 16-month re-deployment plan.
“U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes.”
Oh, snap. And guess what, apparently now so does George W. Bush.
“[Maliki and Bush] agreed that improvements in security should allow for the negotiations “to include a general time horizon for meeting aspirational goals, such as the resumption of Iraqi security control in their cities and provinces and the further reduction of U.S. combat forces from Iraq,” the White House said.”
Oh, snap. P.S. We all know “a general time horizon for meeting aspirational goals” = a timeline for withdrawal. Fuck you, for thinking we’re too stupid to see through that pathetic euphemism.
What does John McCain have to say about Obama and his two new BFF’s?
“Progress between the United States and Iraq on a time horizon for American troop presence is further evidence that the surge has succeeded. … If we had followed Sen. Obama’s policy, Iraq would have descended into chaos, American casualties would be far higher, and the region would be destabilized.”
Well, of course.

“If we had followed Sen. Obama’s policy, Iraq would have descended into chaos, American casualties would be far higher, and the region would be destabilized.”
Not true. Obama was originally against the war. Had we followed Obama’s policy from the very beginning there would be zero American casualties. It’s the policies of the people that McCain is trying to fall in line with that caused Iraq to descend into chaos, American casualties to rise, and for the region to turn into a huge clusterfuck, batshit mess.

Right on, Gene.
McCain had another bout with logic when he claimed yesterday that if we had followed Obama’s policy, Obama would be heading over to a far worse situation in Iraq this weekend.
Also wrong, if you peel back the rhetoric and look at it accurately. If we’d followed Obama’s policy we would never have gone over there in the first place, and Obama probably not be making this trip at all.

Frank Rich delivers a massive beat-down
I know that article only tenuously related to what you just posted, but it adds up to what should be a weekend that is the knockout blow for McCain.
I know how the media covers these things, so I’m not holding my breath, but for the elected leader of a sovereign nation (hellooooo? remember the purple fingers they made such a big deal about!?) to say that a sixteen month timeline is about what is needed, it should be the nail in the coffin of the hardline open-enders. Of course, they’re already spinning and saying that there are plans for a withdrawal “horizon.” Yeah, keep spinning, because you’re digging yourselves into an even bigger hole.
Of course, we haven’t even talked about the United States coalition who are in Iran this weekend in discussions with them about their nuclear program. Wait, didn’t the administration and McCain just lambaste Obama a couple months ago for suggesting the same thing?
This entire administration and anyone who has any sort of connection to it all should simply be rejected like the non-forward-thinking (on sooooo many levels) idiots they are. It’s beyond ridiculous at this point.
