A Tale Of Two Economic Plans

Both candidates released two very different ads on the economic disaster this past week. Obama addressed the issue with specifics, thoughtfulness and directions on how to read his full plan on his website. McCain’s approach was tough-guy rhetoric, and zero specifics—haven’t we had enough of that the past eight years?

Remember when the meme was that Obama was all talk, and no substance?

McCain’s ad is 20 seconds long, starts with “American workers rule, Barack Obama droolz,” presents empty talk as an antidote for supposed empty talk, douses us with a little Bush bravado, and then steals Obama’s mantra and says “change is coming” at the end. Umm, huh?

Chris Matthews has it right. Republicans want to take off their uniforms and pretend they’re not Republicans, and that they haven’t been in charge, and responsible for the last eight years.

“Hey, look at me I’m John McCain, non-partisan, Bush-who?, member of the Old Boys Club™ who wants to take down the Old Boys Club™. I’ll take down lobbyists with my team of lobbyists. I just arrived in Washington yesterday so I represent change (don’t look at that voting record!). But hey, I’ve also been in Washington for 26 years, so I have lots of experience too.”

You had your shot, Republicans. You blew it. It’s time to give someone else a turn. Take responsibility for your failures. The buck stops here.
