Where’s Sarah Palin?
Here’s this morning’s major political talking head show schedule. Take a look and see if there’s anybody conspicuously absent from the discussion…
ABC’s “This Week” – Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.
CBS’ “Face the Nation” – Republican presidential nominee John McCain.
NBC’s “Meet the Press” – Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden.
CNN’s “Late Edition” – Sens. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas; Gov. Tim Kaine, D-Va.; Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs; McCain economic adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer.
“Fox News Sunday” – Obama chief strategist David Axelrod and McCain campaign manager Rick Davis.
Notice anybody missing from this list? Oh yeah, that’s because Sarah Palin got whisked away, back to Alaska, to get tutored by Joe Lieberman and the crew on what to think (she’s said herself she hasn’t paid much attention to the war) and what to say, once our press finally does get the chance to ask her some real questions.
I stressed the word “our” because it’s important to remember, as much as we whine about how annoying the media can be, the press is there for our protection. They’re a shield of inquiry between the politicians who want to run this country, and the American people who elect them and give them their power. We as individuals don’t have access to these candidates, to ask them the tough questions, and get straight answers, so we have to rely on those who do have that access to ask the tough questions on our behalf. I think we can all agree we shouldn’t rely on speeches and controlled campaign events to get our information. Let’s not fool ourselves, campaigns are all about marketing, and the press corps serves as a sort of Consumer Reports for politicians.
This Palin nomination has been a total joke from day-one, it’s an insult the American people, and an insult to the electoral process.
Kennedy, Eisenhower, Adams, Jefferson and Lincoln are rolling over in their graves.

the frightening thing is that there is a chance the stunt could work. the conservative right has a massive hard-on for her, despite not even knowing themselves who she was 3 weeks ago.

Okay, so since it looks like my daughter will in fact be born before this gal drops out, here’s a new question:
Which will we see first?
a) Sarah Palin’s first non-bullshit press conference
or
b) The new Guns N’ Roses album, Chinese Democracy.

personally, i don’t care where she shows up — so long as she arrives wearing this gem: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/31/sarah-palin-photos-a-bust_n_122816.html

from today’s Andy Ostroy article at the Huffington Post:
“There’s a reason the campaign has so far kept her from the press: she has no idea what to say.”

I think you’ve nailed the reason why she’s so popular. Palin has that hard-edged hot school marm look about her that gets the sexually repressed conservative right excited.
